Ron Suggs

Maintenance Worker, Goshen Parks and Recreation Department

When I graduated high school, I just wanted to work and make a living. If anybody would have told me that my life would have ended up like this, I just wouldn’t have believed it.

I was 22 when I came to Goshen and I’ve been here ever since. I’m in my 39th year working at the Goshen Parks and Recreation Department. I never worked an inside job. I just love being outside. I found my niche.

Goshen’s got a lot of bike trails and good outside areas. Like this Dam right here; I’m usually down here every day. This is my favorite place to go. Just from walking or riding up and down the trail every day, you meet people and you get to know them by name.

In my walk of life, I’ve learned that when someone’s nice to you, you’ve got to be nice back. You’ve got to try to pay it forward every time you get a chance. I’m just an ordinary guy just trying to make a good living, but I’m trying to do my little part.

What a life. I found this job, raised my family, and had my three boys. They all got a college education; they all got degrees. I could just pinch myself. From this job, I’ve raised three kids and put them through college, and now they’re all out on their own. They all have great lives, and I could thank this job for that.

You wouldn’t find a better place to live. I love Goshen. It’s been good to me. Life is good. I can’t complain about anything.
