The Imagination Spot

When I opened the retail shop, I knew I wanted to bring a unique experience to the Goshen community. The Imagination Spot is about celebrating the people we love and bringing joy to everyone. You will find many whimsical greeting cards and stationery items, and we have a great selection of gift items for all ages sure to make you smile along with gift bags and gift wrapping.
It’s like a one-stop shop for anything you need for a celebration.
I am an illustrator and graphic designer. I worked in a gift company for ten years. When I was there, I was looking for my own creative outlet in the evenings so I started designing my own line of greeting cards.
That was in 2014.
I was selling them at local arts and crafts shows, and selling them on Etsy, and slowly I started expanding my line to offer notebooks and art prints. Then I started selling wholesale to gift shops around the country. At that time, I thought it would be neat to have my own little gift shop, so in 2019 I opened my own shop in downtown Goshen.
Being the new shop, not many people knew about The Imagination Spot, so with the COVID closures — and then navigating retail after we were able to open — it was really tough. There were days when I thought I was going to have to shut down my retail shop. But I’m really grateful for the support of the community and local businesses around me.
I was in a smaller location, and this year we moved into a larger space across the street.
I think starting small was really good for me to see which products performed best, and [to strategize] how I could expand the shop. I also really wanted to add workshops, so it was just easier to move into a bigger space where I could display more products and also have workshops.
We started those last month. Now there’s a workshop pretty much every Saturday.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the support we’ve received from customers. When you’re curating a shop, you’re not sure how the product selection will be received. I love when the customers come in for their cards and gifts and bring back their friends and families to show them our shop.
One of the best things I hear from our little customers is, ‘This is my favorite shop!’ It’s so sweet! And some of our other customers will say, ‘Oh, Goshen really needed something like this.’
It makes it all worth it.
